Things to Do: Brunch in Eatonville

IDK what you guys did, but on my Sunday Funday last weekend, I went to brunch at a place called Eatonville. It's right on 14th st NW across the street from Busboys and Poets on V st. I unfortunately did NOT take a picture of my food :( Next time though.

We had to wait 20 minutes but it wasn't so bad. The artwork on the walls is beautifully entertaining and so are the people, lots of black people from church congregating again to eat excellent food, keep in mind, it was Sunday. I'm sure any other day of the week there is more variety. The hosts dress in jeans and sweaters and greet you well. As soon as we stepped the room was alive, the atmosphere was pleasantly busy and everyone was enjoying conversation. When we were seated, the host took our drink orders and we were left to our own devices, I really couldn't decide what to order! This was my first time, so it had to be good, that's alot of pressure! I mean, the drink menu was so unique, I had to ask for water first! Once I got the hang of things though, I ordered a Hilltop- Hemp Vodka, Papaya Juice, Mango Rum and Blue Curacao! The drink came fast and it was pleasantly fruity and dangerously delicious, I would order it again but then I switched to the Zorijto- A mojito with coconut tequila, mint and sugar cane! I first ordered the Pulled Short Rib BBQ Sandwich but it was 3pm on a Sunday and they were out :( They were also out of the steak and eggs, I will certainly be going back to try new things though. I ended up going with Shrimp and Grits, I normally do not but I am trying to be less picky and more appreciative of good food. I was not disappointed, it was so good just like the drinks, the grits were not your out of the box grits, they were creamy texture and surrounded by this sauce with sausage in it that was the icing on the cake. Then the shrimp, large shrimp seasoned to perfection atop the bed of grits, I bit off piece by piece each time I grabbed a spoonful of grits and sausage. It was unexpectedly the best meal I have had all week.

But it wasn't over, when we were waiting to be seated, I saw this glass that had strawberries and cream and cake being prepared and I couldn't take my eyes off it! After we demolished the Shrimp and Grits, the waitress who was very sweet and commented on my hair piece  gave us the verbal dessert menu. Every dessert was more tempting than the next, do they have someone who decides the order they say them just to work you up? Cuz he needs a raise. Lemon Almond Pound Cake, Bread Pudding, Strawberry Shortcake Parfait, Molten Lava Cakes and more! I was mesmerized and thankfully still hungry. (I am actually disappointed I didn't order the biscuits to start because I LOVE biscuits and jam!) SO I ordered the strawberry shortcake parfait because I realized THAT'S what I saw! I was so satisfied and excited for my dessert choice, I felt that feeling you get when you know your getting something good... yummmm. OK the dessert came and it was so pretty, layers of fresh strawberries, delicious shortcake and hand whipped cream in a tall glass. It was SOOOOOO good, everything was so good, I was thoroughly impressed. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area that wants to try something new and delicious. It's soul food, judging by the amount of plates they were serving, their specialty is fried chicken.

Doing To Much Tuesday: The Oscars, Kim K makes my eyes roll, What Not To Do at The Airport

1. The Onion calls 9 year old a cunt, apologizes- What? Yes you read that right, the satirical organization tweeted this about the Best Actress nominee:



If you didn't know, she is this adorable girl who plays Hush Puppy in the Beasts of the Southern Wild. 9 years old and nominated for an oscar? Ridiculous! The Onion, is a fool, they often go for the offensive jokes, but calling a little kid a cunt, joke or no joke, that's messed up. She was so excited to be there, I just hope no one told her, they can try to keep her innocence right? The Onion has since removed the tweet, go see the movie just to spite them! But in actuality, I've heard it's an excellent movie.

K-Stew must be on Drugs- If you watched the same Oscars I watched, I'm sure you saw Kirsten Stewart present in the most unexcited way possible. Not only does this chick speak with no joy, the dark circles under her eyes, her fidgeting on the red carpet, her general aloofness.....Either she is mentally ill or she is on drugs. She reminds me of a young Lindsay Lohan, got alittle fame for a couple movies now she looks like a corpse....WHY do they keep hiring her? K-Stew... lay off the drugs, you're doing to much!

Adele manged to not dress like Mrs. Doubtfire- Adele will always always have my respect as a singer and a person, she seems quite nice, and I glad she won for her Song in Skyfall... I am also glad that she managed to NOT wear a curtain to the Oscars, well done, well done. Check out her sparkly black number, simple and elegant. I especially loved when she accepted her award crying and says "And for my man, I love you baby" in her accent, reminded me of my mum :)



I also thought the Oscars was way too long, and could have done without Catherine Zeta Jones number, the poor woman hardly moved her hips, there was NOTHING sexy about it all, I don't even remember the song she sang!

2. Kim K. is a Kontradiction- Kim K. said two weeks ago that now that she is pregnant she wants to be more private.... it lasted maybe a week. Kimye look like they are having sex on the cover of the french magazine, L'Officiel Hommes. She is quoted as saying:

“My boyfriend has taught me a lot about privacy,” said Kardashian, 32, who is expecting her first child in July. “I’m ready to be a little less open about some things, like my relationships. I’m realizing everyone doesn’t need to know everything. I’m shifting my priorities.”

I really don't get why people keep asking her questions if she is just going to contradict herself a week later. Out of all the naked preggo covers celebs do, I think this is the only one portraying conception! SEESSHH KIM GOD HELP US, apparently it's a baby girl....... Daddy to be just went on a rant in Paris, claiming he doesn't like Suit and Tie, well I don't think Beyonce and Jay-Z like Kim K, could there be some future conflict in the illuminati world? Will baby Kimye challenge Blue Ivy for the Illuminati Throne?  I think Beyonce is gonna pop out another baby just to make sure the empire is secure with 2 heirs....

Apparently Charlotte Free is totally supportive of notoriously creepy photographer Terry Richardson, she said this the other day:

"Terry likes to do sexy stuff, that's his shit. If you don't wanna be part of it, make it clear in the beginning. Don't willingly blow the man and get all mad and ashamed later…I hate when girls say 'but he asked me to.' You should have said no then, stupid bitch! There's plenty of other girls waiting in line, so he's not forcing you to do shit. When you make a choice you have to live with it - unless someone got you fucked up against your will."

While I agree with Charlotte, DO NOT DO ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT 100% COMFORTABLE WITH, I DO NOT agree with her condoning this man's practice of using his profession to get off. This business is so shady already because women are being exploited. People like Terry know these women want to be famous, and he uses that desire to get sexual favors.... ITS WRONG, it's perverted and it should be illegal in my mind. It should be illegal in order to protect these women who are slaves to their own dreams for fame, it should be illegal to protect the reputation of professional and respectful photographers, and it should be illegal because it seems like prostitution, having sex for a photo shoot is the same as having sex for money!

Models

Everyone wants to be a model, but the fact is, only select hardworking few can comfortably live life as just a model. The majority are people with other jobs, people who will never be published, and people who think they have what it takes. This is why models are so exploitable  because they want to be full time but for a number of factors, would need a special boost to make it to that level. Con artists, rapists, molesters and porn producers prey on these models, offering them promises of money, fame, and other gigs, for a sexual price. Most often, once a model submits to their request, they are immediately dropped or they keep performing and never see the fruits of their labor. Models should think about not only the possibility that a person is using them for sex, but the mental consequences of using your body to get ahead, for instance, feelings of shame, regret and PTSD. Not to mention building a negative reputation is 100% easier than a positive one, and 100% harder to escape. Models who commit these sexual favors make it harder for the next model to be taken seriously. Charlotte mentions, if you won't do it, someone else will, but could you imagine a day when NO ONE does it? And creepers have to rely on their talent to book models? That will never happen if women don't start respecting themselves and saying NO when approached to perform sexual acts. These men gain their confidence when we give them our power.

Here is how to avoid these situations:

• Do not discuss or bargain when asked to perform a sexual favor, simply say NO


• If they persist, leave


• Research your photographer


• Inform friends and family of who and where you are shooting with


• Meet in a public place the first time


• Trust your gut feelings


• Know how to protect yourself

Photographers

Real photographers who don't use their profession to get laid must hate guys like Terry, he gives the industry a bad name. These people make it hard for artists to collaborate when they keep hearing stories of photographers taking nudes and doing what they wish with them. In order to maintain a good reputation and protect yourself with these tips:

• Have release forms for models


• Avoid sexual conversations


• Do not stare or comment when a model is changing


• Work at the model's comfort level


• Allow escorts


• Meet in public places

Modeling can be fun and creative but there is a dark underside that borders on prostitution that could lead from private photos leaked on the internet to being kidnapped into a human trafficking ring.

Human trafficking is the illegal trade of human beings. It has been perpetrated mainly for the purposes of sexual slavery or forced labor; other purposes include extraction of organs or tissues^[1][2] and even surrogacy and ova removal^[3

Would you be surprised that it happens EVERYDAY?

Human traffickers easily find these vulnerable individuals because they prey on the victims’ low level of economic, psychological and educational well being. Some fall prey due to the promise of lucrative jobs to escape poverty. The lure of a better future in a foreign country can be an attractive enticement to the down trodden and disadvantaged.

A 20 year old woman from Guatemala became a prostitute because of a debt which jumped from $5,000 to $30,000. She was illegally smuggled the US, thinking that she would get a housekeeping job. She was forced to deliver 25 tricks per day for the next 9 months.

A developmentally disabled girl who had difficulty making friends was approached and befriended by another woman at Santa Rosa Junior College and later disappeared. She was forced into prostitution by her captors. The search for her ended 18 months later after her mother saw her being advertised on craiglist.com.

Bottom line, handle these requests with an authoritative NO and leave if you feel uncomfortable, fame is not worth your conscious or morals, and you can easily get yourself in deep trouble when you entertain creepy potential rapists.

1.  Man slaps "nigger" baby on airplane because it won't stop crying-  This guy is either your racist hero or your worst nightmare... We all can admit that it's so annoying when a child starts screaming at the top of its lungs that it wants off this flying death trap we call planes, but we also have to admit that we were once children, that children think completely different from adults. Shame on this man for A. being a racist waste of space and B. slapping a 2 year old TODDLER.... COME ON he is very much a baby! My 7 year old brother cried at his first sleepover, I'm sure feeling like your brain is going to implode is enough to make any baby cry! Worse still, this asshole is an executive at some company in Idaho... maybe that's a good thing cuz he lost his job for acting like a ignorant senile geriatric punk! They through his ass straight to the curb when he got back home! Karma... is a nasty bitch! He did too much... but is it too much to ask parents to give the kids benadryl or nyquil??? JUSTTTT not KIDDING :)

HOLY SHEZZZ, and the lawyers say this wasn't a murder... wtf was it? self defense? she was like a size 2, he has metal bouncy legs!! EVEN with no legs... this is murder, what did someone else do it? SHE WAS HIDING IN THE BATHROOM.... or she was taking a shit and he was just so fed up with her stank... either way, WHO is going to believe this is not murder? And his dumbass starts crying when he hears "murder charge" You weren't crying when you pulled that trigger 4 times!!!! I hate that, you can do the crime like a tough guy but your bitch when they give the time, I wonder if they let you have metal legs in prison or do they make you use a wheelchair? This guy just lost his whole life, all you needed was some febreeze homie, its eliminates odors!

Til you have clean up doll poop... and you have to feed them to make them poop and pee water, which can get quite messy.... It's just gross... why do dolls need to poop? How many dolls died because kids fed them play doh and messed up their insides? How many dolls starved becuz the kids got bored and stopped feeding it... you remember furby's? well you have to put your finger on their tongue to "feed" them otherwise they would cry and make stupid telephone noises, and they must have had battery saving technology because one of them sat in my closet for years and would make creepy noises randomly, I often thought about it activating its terminator software and going on a furby rampage because it needs so much damn attention! Any toy that is a commitment is TO MUCH!

Spring 2013 Trend Translation!

It's time for a new season already, seems like just yesterday I was talking about winter trends! So here is the SPRING 2013 Trend translation, where I tell you what the magazines say is the new hotness and bring it down to normal people earth! Anyone can be stylish check out these simple rules to follow this spring!

1. Black and White:

According to glamour magazine, black and white is springs biggest contrast! How easy right? Try to balance the two colors in flattering patterns, black and white plays a good trick on the eye if designed well, check out these super cute options:



2. Statement Sunglasses

I am SOO happy about this trend because I have recently discovered I look good in glasses! And I have started to collect a good amount of interesting sunglasses so I an armed and ready! As for you, sunglasses should fun and express personality so go crazy this spring! I love these:



3. Ruffles

Again this a style I love, its girly and fancy and perfect for spring! Ruffles when placed right can hide trouble areas, if you have a large bust but not equally as large hips, give yourself an hourglass figure by ruffling your tail feathers! No bust? No probelm! Simply place those ruffles around the bust to add volume, BUT DO NOT wear ruffles on your waist unless they are very little ruffles. Check out some options below:



4. Leather

Carried over form fall and winter, see if you can work some of these leather peices into your wardrobe this spring. I  think leather can be harsh so go for chic or roughed looks, or surprise everyone with leather boots and a darling sundress!



5. Lace

Another favorite of mine, lace is classy or trashy so be careful with this one. Go for classic pieces, I am on the look out for some lace gloves! Think Jackie O, not Madonna, but should you want to channel Madonna, I have included some wild child lace items:

Doing to Much Tuesday: Black History Month, Heroin and Fake Hair

Hello Dolls,

 

So I have quite lazy and unfocused I feel lately with this blog so I had decided to make it easier on myself and create a schedule of repeatable blog posts... WA LA! Doing to much Tuesday, the day I go on alittle rant about people who blow things out of proportions or just plain FAIL!

 

1. It's Black History Month and all across the country schools are giving assemblies and doing activities to get children to understand the impact that slavery had on this nation. I support this, however my close friend Lu recently told me that her daughter's KINDERGARTEN class did an activity over the course of two days where half the class was "black" one day and then switched the next..... and they made all the "black" kids do the cleaning and work for the day and the "white" kids did nothing. Well.... I have a problem with this because one, why do they have to be black and white? Why cant they be purple and red or something? Why does this matter? Because my god daughter left class that day feeling SORRY for the black kids.... is it me or did they just go backwards instead of forwards? My god daughter never cared about color, and I'm sure the other kindergarteners didn't make such a big deal out of color.... UNTIL the teacher made it a big deal!  The purpose of Black History Month is not give black people pity, its to celebrate the accomplishments of black people and remind the country of our racial past so that we are grateful we have come so far.... obviously not far enough when elementary schools are teaching students to be sorry for black people... doing way to much with this activity and I'm glad Lu called the school out on this one!

 

2. Salwa from MTV's Buckwild was reportedly arrested for possession and intent to distribute HEROIN and Oxy's! DOING TOO MUCH GIRL! Seriously you would think people who have thrust themselves in the public eye would  behave better, if not because they have a little money from it, at least so they can keep milking it! Now if this girl was just caught up with the wrong people at the wrong, I still don't feel bad, but that really sucks. BUT if she was selling this shit.... well good luck to you cuz thats a felony!  If you are gonna sell drugs, sell weed, people are always buying it and the punishment is less harsh... plus it doesn't make you look like complete trash when everyone finds out. No more showing your boobs on MTV Salwa! Good JOB!

3. Kelis at the Essence Black Women in Music event.... IDK what she was thinking.... but it's TOO MUCH! First of all.... is that even hair on her head? Where did she find this outfit and who told it was ok to walk out of the house like this!?! Besides being Nas' babymama, Kelis is a talented musician who deserves to be on the radio again.... but honey you will go no where if you continue to dress like this... only people with steady income get to get away with looking like a rich homeless person!

Natural Remedies: Apple Cider Vinegar

Here is another all natural product with tons of uses! Apple cider vinegar with the mother (means its going to look brown) has all these uses, but I first bought it to help with heart burn, go figure I have already used it several times as a cleanser and in cooking!

1. Face wash- pour a capful of vinegar in a cupful of water for a gentle all natural cleanser  Apple cider vinegar is very harsh so be sure to ALWAYS dilute it! I have been using it and 3 days in, my face is cleaner, acne is better and pores are smaller!

2. Hair Rinse-  After you shampoo, rinse your hair with half a teaspoon of vinegar and a cupful of water  for increased body and shine

3. Remove stains from teeth- Rub vinegar directly on teeth * NOTE that vinegar is very acidic and too much can damage your teeth!

4.Sunburns- 1 cup in a hot bath and soak! Mix with Epsom salt for added skin benefits!



5. Aftershave- Mix with water for less chemicals on your skin

6. Weight loss- For daily weight management, add 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar to 16 ounces of water. This concoction can be sipped throughout the day. Data shows some limited, yet significant, weight loss benefits from sustained daily intake of acetic acid (which is a main ingredient in apple cider vinegar).

7. Heartburn-  2 tablespoons in water throughout the day help balance the acid and pH in your stomach

8. Yeast Infection- Mix with lots of water and apply to affected area for natural relief, it will kill yeast but will not cure it.

9. Chemical Balance- Apple cider vinegar helps regulate the pH in your body, aids in detox and helps flush out toxins!

10. Break up mucus- Drink to cleanse lymph nodes and break up mucus, helps alleviate allergies and sinus pressure

11. Flea repellent- One part vinegar and one part water can be sprayed on your pets fur and rubbed in generously to the skin. Saturate the entire coat, and continue every day for a few days to a week. Any flea infestation will surely be gone.

12. House cleaner!

ANYWAYS we LOVE these jumpsuits... not all of them, only the cool ones. A jumpsuit is awesome, why? Because its super comfy, it can be casual, it can be formal!!! WHAT?! Craziness... it can also be crazy. So where did the jumpsuit get its start? Well... it was jumping, out of planes and someone said "this could be so much cooler, I'll wear it to the bar" it was the 60's, probably alot of drugs. Suddenly everyone was jump suiting it! Think of all the jumpsuits you can see:
