Purchase this dress here: http://adorastylez.highwire.com/product/ruffle-belted-dress

[slideshow]

I had so much fun showing off this adorable chiffon long sleeved belted dress at work! The high neckline is modest, let your legs do the talking and the walking because this comes to mid thigh on me!!!!(keep in mind I have reallllly long legs and it will probably look longer on you) Mustard is a great fall color, it brings out the yellow you miss from summer without looking like you don't know what season this is....

Pair with some adorable pumps or try a boot! Stockings are a great accessory, at some point, you HAVE to cover up your legs to avoid looking like a streetwalker!! Ladies, do not go outside in cold weather with bare legs...  you look like a dummy shivering because you wanted to "look cute".... This dress will go perfectly with nude or black... Hey why not mix it up and wear burgundy?

Skies the limit! Happy Shopping!

Natural Remedies: What can't Epsom Salt do? Beauty, Health, Skin, Gardening....

The miracle substance- Epsom Salt

I recently came in contact with some substance that made my skin very angry, I had painful, burning, and itchy hives on my calves that got worse at night, so bad I couldn't sleep!! And while I don't know what or where I touched this substance, I know that my reaction was extremelyyyy unpleasant. SO at 1am I started googling home remedies for relieving hives and rashes and came across a great article listing some of the many uses of Epsom Salt, relieving painful rashes was one of them.... So I jumped out of bed and I headed to the bath, thankfully my roommate had Epsom Salt!! 30 minutes later after soaking in the bath and applying the Epsom salt directly to my skin, the itching and burning was gone, I could feel it working!! I got out and made a "paste" of Epsom salt and water and applied it to a bandage and wrapped it around my legs, I was finally able to sleep and I woke up the next morning with no pain or itch!! IT'S A MIRACLE!

Epsom salt is not actually salt but a naturally occurring pure mineral compound of magnesium and sulfate, it soothes inflammation, achy joints and muscles, calms rashes and absorbs into our skin. Epsom salt has numerous health benefits as well as many beauty, household and gardening-related uses. Magnesium plays a number of roles in the body including regulating the activity of over 325 enzymes, however there is a substantial amount of people who are deficient in magnesium, Women that crave chocolate during PMS … that’s a magnesium deficiency. So why take a pill? Hop in the bath to get your dose of magnesium!!

But Epsom salt doesn't stop there, there are sooo many uses, from beauty to household to gardening. Pick up some Epsom salt today from your local pharmacy and start taking advantage of all it's benefits!!

*ALL OF THESE USES ARE COMPLETELY NATURAL AND SAFE FOR SENSITIVE SKIN AND CHILDREN*

What can Epsom salt do for you?

Relieves:

-Joint pain-add 2 cups Epsom salt to a warm bath and soaking for at least 12 minutes. For the added benefit of moisturizing your skin, add 1/2 cup olive oil or baby oil. Do not use soap as it will interfere with the action of the salts. Try to rest for about two hours afterwards.

-Muscle pain and spasms

-Headaches

-Itching from insect bites, rashes, hives- mix with water and apply to affected skin until itching subsides

-Cramps- soak in Epsom bath

-Constipation- Mix 1 tsp. in a glass of water. It will taste extremely bitter, but it works.

-Inflammation-  Add 2 cups Epsom salt to a warm bath and soak to reduce the pain and swelling of sprains and bruises.

-Stress

-High Blood Pressure

-Athletes foot- Soak your affected toes in hot water mixed with a handful of Epsom salt three times a day.

-Toenail fungus- Soak your affected toes in hot water mixed with a handful of Epsom salt three times a day.

- Gout inflammation-Ease the discomfort of gout and reduce inflammation by adding 2-3 teaspoons of Epsom salts into a basin and immersing the affected foot/joint. The water should be as hot as it is comfortable. Soak for about 30 minutes.

-Draws out splinters and fiberglass particles- Soak affected skin area in an Epsom salt bath to draw out the splinter/ fiberglass

- Sunburn, Diaper rash, yeast infections, Eczema - A cool bath with 2 cups of Epsom salt reduces pain and has mild anti-inflammatory properties.

-Autism Symptoms (WOW!)- The relaxing effect of the Epsom salt is said to calm autistic children and adults down, children with autism may have decreased levels of phenol sulfotransferase, or PST. Magnesium sulfate may help to increase sulfate in the bloodstream and to moderate PST levels.

-Draws Toxins out of bites/ rashes

-Cleans wounds

-Chicken pox itching

Increases:

-Circulation- Add 2 cups Epsom salt to a warm bath and soak

-Effectiveness of Insulin (Can help lower risk of diabetes)- Add 2 cups Epsom salt to a warm bath and soak

-Mood- Helps detoxify and relax body

Regulates:

-Enzymes

-Electrolytes

Beauty:

-Hair volumizer-Combine equal parts deep conditioner and Epsom salt and warm in a pan. Work the warm mixture through your hair and leave on for 20 minutes. Rinse thoroughly.

-Exfoliates dead skin-In the shower or bath, mix a handful of Epsom salt with a tablespoon of bath or olive oil and rub all over your wet skin to exfoliate and soften. Rinse thoroughly.

-Dislodges Blackheads- Add a teaspoon of Epsom salt and 3 drops iodine into a half cup of boiling water. Apply this mixture to the blackheads with a cotton ball.

-Softens rough skin-Add 2 cups Epsom salt to a warm bath and soak

-Face cleanser- To clean your face and exfoliate skin at the same time, mix a half-teaspoon of Epsom salt with your regular cleansing cream. Gently massage into skin and rinse with cold water.

-Oily Hair Cleanser- Add nine tablespoons of Epsom salt to a half cup of shampoo to help soak up excess oil and leave your locks clean.

Household:

-Clean bathroom tiles - Mix equal parts Epsom salt and liquid dish detergent and use as a scrub on bathroom tile.

-Prevent slugs - Sprinkle Epsom salt on or near interior entry points to prevent slugs.

-As a hand wash - Mix Epsom salt with baby oil and keep by the sink for an effective hand wash.

Gardening: (why not use your bath water? and get double the use!! I'm sure the plants don't mind)

-Fertilize your houseplants and trees- Most plants need nutrients like magnesium and sulfur to stay in good health and Epsom salt makes the primary nutrients in most plant foods (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) more effective. Sprinkle Epsom salt once weekly to help nourish your houseplants, flowers and vegetables.

-Keep your lawn green - Magnesium sulfate crystals, when added to the soil, provide vital nutrients that help prevent yellowing leaves and the loss of green color (magnesium is an essential element in the chlorophyll molecule) in plants. Add 2 tablespoons of Epsom salt to a gallon of water and sprinkle on your lawn to keep the grass healthy and green.

-Insecticide spray - Use Epson salts on your lawn and in your garden to safely and naturally get rid of plant pests.

-Deter Raccoons- They hate the taste!! Sprinkle it around your trash bins

-Non-Toxic Weed Killer- 2 tsp per gallon of water in a spray bottle knocks those weeds right out!

Other uses:

-Decoration- Use Epsom salt in vases to hold flowers

- DIY Spa Gifts- you can use food color to create a pretty looking supply of Epsom salts. use a bit of essential oil also for a heavenly aroma. toss the epsom salts with the color and scent, place on a cookie sheet to dry, then package up for a gift. you can place in a pretty jar and tie instructions for soaking on a card with a ribbon, or just wrap up the Epsom salts in a couple layers of tulle that you've cut into a circle, gather up and tie with that ribbon. again, you can make this yourself on the cheap or pay much more to buy it already scented and colored at the spa.

-Animal skin problems- works the same for humans for animals fur and skin

I'm sure there are countless other uses and it's certainly more than ANY prescription anything your doctor could prescribe, it's completely natural, our bodies need it, our plants love it, and it might just be the best product you will purchase this year! TRY IT and leave me a comment on your experiences!!!

DIY Diva: 7 Temporary Decorating Ideas for Renters

So you've got yourself an apartment, huh? That's great, until you run into some decorating obstacles, such as no painting or no holes in the wall.... BLAHHH. Violating these rules can lead to losing your deposit! OH NO! So how do you decorate an apartment and make it a home within those limitations? I'll show you:

1.Removable Wallpaper... YES, REMOVABLE!

Jackpot! Painting walls is so messy, and time consuming, not to mention the fumes and the fact that you have to paint over it when you move! So if you are like me and you don't think its worth the effort for a rental, check out this awesome technique to wallpaper or create fabric walls, and I love the fact that patterns are only limited to your imagination! You can use anything from book pages to wrapping paper!! Go hunting at a gift store for wrapping paper, try the thrift store for fabric (you can use curtains, sheets, etc. for small areas), My absolute FAVORITE paper idea is book pages!!

2.Washi Tape

I recently read about Japanese decorative tape called Washi Tape, and was really intrigued!! The tape removes easily from the wall so go crazy! The uses are endless- Make a mural, cover a lamp base, create the illusion of painted stripes!! Again, this is only limited to your imagination!!

Use this tape for other things:

-Cover Light switches

-Decorate appliances and furniture

-Artwork

-"shadow boxing"

-Trim Doors and Windows

- I have even seen it being used on hardwood floors!!

3.Coat hooks and picture hangers

Command by 3M is a product line of removable and wall friendly hooks and hangers. Save yourself the time and effort of having to fill-in and paint walls left damaged from invasive hooks and picture hangers by using these sticky backed products. Each one lists the amount of weight it can hold as well!

4.Mirrors

Mirrors are all around awesome! You can see yourself wonderful self, but more relevant, mirrors reflect light around the room making it seem bigger and brighter. To avoid damaging a wall to hang a mirror, simply place the mirror on something, a dresser, a tv stand, even the floor! Because a well placed mirror looks deliberate if done correctly, your guests won't even know you can't hang it!!

Try this with large canvas art, mix and match pieces for a on the floor collage!

5.Removable Tiles

Rental flooring is often the cheapest material the landlord can buy, can you blame them though?? Save yourself from hating that awful tile by covering it with removable tiles in chic and modern designs! Best part is, when you move, you can take them with you!!

Chilewich Tiles

6.Contact paper backsplash

The simplest solution to reinventing your kitchen, is to apply contact paper to your TILE (must be tile) backsplash!! You can do this two ways, cut the paper into tile shaped squares or apply the paper intact. Get creative! Try a metallic paper and cut it into squares, alternate the grain to make it stand out even more!!

How to apply the contact paper:

Amazing patterned contact paper:

Another idea for contact paper is to use it as art! apply it to a cheap piece of plywood and mount it in a frame!

Use here as well!

-Cover wooden or plastic furniture

-Cover a bathroom window (blocks view, lets in light if you get transparent)

-Inside drawers and shelves

7.Removable Wall Tiles

Just like the wallpaper, these tiles adhere with a easy to remove glue. But unlike the wallpaper, these tiles also add texture and depth to the wall. Personally I love these and permanently glued them to wall in my rental property (Yea, I'm a landlord, but I promise I'm a renter too!!). In the article below there are links to vendors selling these tiles, however, you can find similar tiles at home depot or Lowes. AGAIN get creative, glue them to the ceiling and mimic old and rich architecture, glue them to the fronts of cabinets(not confirmed if this will damage, you should test it out first) or mount them in a picture frame, possibilities are endless!

I've suffered to long! Adora's struggle with Uterine Fibroids

“Mom, I really don’t want to go to school today, my cramps are so bad!”

That was often the case when I was in high school, starting from 6 months after my first period, my cramps were enough to make me miss school or come home from school in pain, crying, sometimes vomiting, and wanting to be in the fetal position. Most people say, “oh take some tylenol you will be fine” “girl problems are not a good excuse to miss school” “stop using your period as an excuse”…. But no one could possibly understand the pain I felt because every woman is different, little did I know, I was very different and this was the beginning of the rest of my life and I fully expected to be in pain the entire time.

When I was 17ish, I was diagnosed with a cyst on my ovary, via ultrasound, which I had to request from my doctor. I was prescribed birth control but I would bleed a lot, irregularly, and just did not feel good on the hormones, so I stopped. I dealt with severe cramps, often taking 800 mg of motrin just be able to move from my bedroom. I laid there with heating pads and had to sleep through the pain, even asked my boyfriends to constantly rub my stomach to help with the pain. I was in agony, but I thought it was normal, this was just how my periods were going to be and I would have to accept it. When I finally did go to the dr again, maybe 2 years had passed, I was there because I was afraid of my next period. In January 2012 I noticed my periods were more painful, but dealt with it, February, more pain, dealt with it, March MORE pain, so much pain that I was afraid my next period would send me to the hospital. So I saw the Doctor, explained how I felt about the hormones and how my period was getting worse and worse, and he put me on Necon 1/35 and told me to take the pills continuously, to not have a period. 1 month passed I was back in his office, something still was very wrong with me, I asked for an ultrasound, but he didn’t think we would find anything because he didn’t feel anything in his examination of my uterus. The ultrasound revealed 4 uterine fibroids, dr said, “fibroids are normally painless and harmless, keep taking the birth control and it will stop them from growing and you should have kids sooner rather than later” So I said ok but I don't want kids anytime soon but I certainly want them, another month passed and the pain wasn’t so bad because I wasn’t having a period, but I was STILL in pain, at this point we were considering the possibility of endeometrosis. That word is scary, you start thinking about the kids you haven’t had and the lifeling management of a disease that can be anywhere inside your abdomen. We scheduled to surgery for 2 weeks later, I spent that entire 2 weeks snapping on everyone because I was so stressed out at the possibility of endo. Surgery day comes and it goes well, no endo is found, but adhesions are (thank god I thought, I am not crazy!) My ovaries looked healthy and my tubes spilled dye HOORAY! I thought my problems were finally solved. 5 days later (I can’t sit still) I was back to work and I actually did feel a lot better, yes percocet helped during my recovery because I was on bed rest,  all I could really do is sit in bed and be served because even sitting up hurt! So I healed up, I felt good, I came in for my Post-Op feeling cramping, but my dr said “That’s normal”, I went back on the birth control. After surgery my body didn’t respond to the birth control the same and I had a period despite me trying to avoid it… and It was pretty painful! I started researching other birth controls, but luckily the pharmacy only had the generic version one day when I picked up my prescription, and miraculously it worked better than the name brand! I have been successful at curbing my period from august to now. But I started to notice, if I didn’t take the BC right at the 24 hour mark, I would start to feel cramping, literally at the 25th hour mark. SO what happens when I have a period? I can expect to feel that same cramping, and probably more. We had ruled out cysts, adhesions, endometriosis, and STD’s…. the last remaining culprit, the fibroids, which are not “supposed” to cause pain, are in deed, causing A LOT of pain.

So today I spoke with another dr in the practice, who agreed that our next step is a Myomectomy. More invasive than the lapro, a myomectomy actually cuts into the uterine wall, depending on where the fibroids are, and the surgeon removes the tumors. Recovery will be longer, and I will be in more pain than the first surgery. Unfortunately I have scheduled it over thanksgiving, it just works better with taking time off. I will be updating this story regularly, I have a pre-op consult on October 9th.

Ladies, if you are in extreme pain, it is not normal, you are not crazy or weak because you can’t stand your period, get checked out and never stop until you are satisfied with your health!! Don’t be like me! Don’t be a “hero” and suck it up because “it’s the way of the world”, I probably could have prevented this from becoming so vital by getting checked more often and voicing that I didn’t think my pain was normal!!

Pay attention to your body.

UltraViolet Photo Shoot

Yesterday (Sept 20th) I had the great privilege to work with two very talented DC locals on a photo shoot that was color themed! Chi Chi and Robert of Style with Salience and REA Photography, respectively, met me in DC by the Nationals Stadium to transform me from this:

To This!

We had a rough start, the security guard told us to leave the building but we found an empty one and setup shop! Chi Chi, founder and owner of Style With Salience, got right to work on my make-up, her vision was coming to life on my face! As you can see, my color was WHITE! I think the white shows up extremely well with my skin tone!  We shot from 8pm-10pm, and with Robert’s guidance, probably got over 100 awesome shots!

Edited pictures coming soon!

Know your most important asset: YOUR SKIN!

Do you know your skin type? Are you oily? Dry? Prone to sunburn or acne? Each one of us has a unique balance of hormones, genes, environments and stress level that determine how our skin behaves, but did you know that can improve and even harm your skin with the products that you use everyday?

Check out the descriptions below, you may be doing your skin an injustice!

“Normal” Skin-
Normal skin does mean the skin that everyone should have, it means your skin is not oily or dry, it is in the middle of both. Normal type is the least problematic and can use most generic products without experiencing much damage. Remember, to keep your skin normal, use a light weight moisturizer with sunscreen and you will have beautiful skin for years. The trick to keeping your skin supple is applying creams in an upward motion to increase circulation and keeping the skin moisturized! Products for normal skin:

 Dry Skin-
Dry skin is prone to dry patches, flakes, and has a tight feeling. If you wash your face and it feels tight after, if you notice flakes along your hairline, or have small itchy patches, you are drying your skin! Look for cleansers that are gentle, rely on your moisturizer to balance your skin, be sure to use it after every wash. Choose one that has sunscreen to avoid sun damage. For extra moisture, use a moisturizing mask 3 times a week. Exfoliating can remove rough patches but apply a heavy cream after to protect the skin. Pay attention to how your skin reacts to your current products and slowly make the switch, you may find you simply needed a less irritating cleanser! Keep in mind; environments with low humidity or harsh air conditioning contribute to drying your skin out! Products for dry skin:

Oily Skin-
Oily skin tends to break out with acne past your teen years, you may feel that your make-up doesn’t stay as well after a couple hours, or you have larger pores, especially on your cheeks, nose and T zone. The good thing about oily skin is it ages better than dry skin because the oils keep the skin plump allowing fewer wrinkles to form. Many young women have oily skin but as they age, they may find their skin becomes drier, especially after age 35. Oily skin needs cleansers made for oily skin to pull excess oil from the pores, oil builds up as you sweat, when you put make-up on or heavy moisturizers. Exfoliate twice a week to remove dead skin that can trap oil. Choose moisturizers formulated for oily skin and use an astringent to clean your pores out at the end of the day. Removing all make-up before you sleep is extremely important! If you sleep on it, you will break out!  Powdered foundation and blushes are best because they sit on top of the skin instead of sinking into pores like liquids. Products for oily skin:

Combination Skin-
Combination skin is a very common type, 70% of woman, you may have oily skin in your T-zone, and dry skin by your hairline. Use a gentle cleanse and a light weight moisturizer all over, you may want to add a night cream to your dry areas. Cleanse and moisturize twice daily, use a mask for added moisture on your dry skin, but remember to stay away from heavy creams on your oily areas, exfoliate your T-zone to remove dead skin. Products for combination skin:

Sensitive Skin-
Sensitive skin can be caused by allergies, hormone imbalances, or just genetics. Sensitive skin should use sensitive skin products, always! These cleansers, moisturizers and astringents are specially formulated to be gentle, have less irritating chemicals, and interact with your skin in a way that doesn’t leave residue or clog pores. Sensitive skin is the most problematic but more and more products are being made for this type nowadays, so there’s no reason why you can’t have flawless skin too! If a product irritates your skin, don’t hesitate to return it and try a different one! Products for sensitive skin:
